Finishing For Them!

Finishing For Them!

Is it worth it?  The time?  The money?  The sacrifices?  Those were just a few of the questions running through my head and heart as I stood over the washing machine a number of years ago moving a load into the dryer.  It was not a good season in many ways.  I was serving full-time in a local church with very little help.  We had two young and overly energetic boys.  My wife was expecting baby number three in about two months.  The real struggle was in her experiencing premature labor and thus confined to mostly bed rest.  She was out of commission and I was wondering what in the world I was doing taking grad-school classes.  The questions were logistical and about motive.  Am I doing this for the right reasons?  Do I really need to pursue an MA?  Can’t I just as well serve my present job and calling fine with what I have?  Then as I was reaching down to pull out the last handful of clean clothing I sensed the Holy Spirit confirming that I needed to stay in the fight. Life on Mission!

Life on Mission!

SNDAre you in?  Are you living the life that God created you to live in such a way that eternity will be changed?  Isn’t that spiritual and evangelism stuff just for preachers and professional missionaries?  Or is there something more?  Is it possible that we can all get in the game?  Join us for the Discussions this Sunday night at 8p Central as we welcome our special guest, Tim Harlow, to the show.  Tim is the senior pastor of Parkview Christian Church in south Chicago-land and author and creator of the Life on Mission Project.  Over the past 25 years Christ followers from Parkview have become an indispensable part of the south Chicago community. As a team, they have touched former gang leaders, business owners, ex-strippers, and soccer moms alike.  Because these simple Christians were living a life on mission, their community and world have been transformed.

How can God use someone like us to make a difference? How can regular people without a Bible College education touch their immediate sphere of influence and eventually the world? Is it really possible?  Be sure to tune in here or on our Google + Sunday Night Discussions page for the live webcast.  Feel free to send in questions early as we explore what it really means to fully live a life on mission.  As usual, we will be giving away free resources toward the end of the show.

God Around the World!

God Around the World!

What is God doing in our day around the world?  Most of my kingdom work is centered in an American cultural context.  But what is God doing beyond the box of Western and American thinking about Christianity? Join us this Sunday at 8p Central as we welcome Dr. Chris DeWelt to the show.  We will be looking at God and global Christianity.  Chris comes to the discussion with the experience of having lived in the cultural context of Chile for 8 years and has served in close to 80 other countries and cultures.  Presently Chris serves as Director and Professor of Intercultural Studies at Ozark Christian College in Joplin, Mo.

What is God up to around the world?  What does authentic Christianity look like in other countries and cultures around the globe?  What is it about authentic Christianity that transcends culture?  How can we be involved in God’s work no matter where we are on the earth?  Those and many other questions will be part of the discussion Sunday night.  Don’t miss this exciting internationally charged live webcast.  You are welcome to send in questions ahead of time or you can participate live through our SND Google + page, our SND Face Book page, or through the comment section here.  So be sure to plan ahead and grab a friend and we’ll see you tomorrow night.

Can We Trust The Text?

Can We Trust The Text?

SNDIt’s a valid question! Can we trust the Bible? Many Christians hold their hope and build their world view around the Bible. But is it reliable? Is it really the authentic word of God? Or, on the other hand, is it something else; something of mere human origin? Is it just a good piece of literature? Has it been translated too many times to know for sure? Is it just a good book or morals? Can it really be any different from the Quran, the Book of Mormon, or the teachings of Buda? What about the Jesus spoken of in the Bible? Can we trust the Biblical accounts of Christ or was he simply a historical person no greater than Julius Caesar?

Those are all real questions that we want to humbly address this Sunday night on the “Discussions.” So join us this week at 8p Central as we welcome our special guest, Dr. Terry Bowland from Ozark Christian College. Questions can be sent in here or directly through viewing the show on the “Sunday Night Discussions” Goolge + page.
