Thanks ladies for the input. There sure are a lot of ways we could go with this. What else could be added? What are some more practical suggestions that could be made?

Hey Steve.
I really enjoyed reading this. I have always felt that Women have a huge role to play in the church, By coming along side the male leaders to help and support the church, and especially older women coming along side young women. I wish I would actually see this happen more often....

I believe that there are only two roles that women should not hold in the church. One is an elder. Although she may still do Elder duties, she should answer to the elders that are male. And I think if she is doing elder duties she should be attending all of their meetings and lending support, but as far as a vote that counts, well you can contend with God on that one. And I don't think she should be the Senior preaching minister. But we need women preaching. I think it is terrible that we don't have more women preaching under the authority of the Sr. Minister. That is why Beth Moore, Kay Author, and Joyce Meyer are so popular. They are filling this huge void that the church is completely ignoring. So other than those two roles, women have no restraint from scripture. As far as the youth minister Steve mentioned who was a "hot babe" being bad for the boys, just the opposite is true of the "hot guy" youth minister with the young girls. That one goes both ways.

I think this is a great article; well thought out, supported by scripture and historical fact. I agreed heavily on what you had to say about roles of men and women. God designed us with different roles. Men have been given greater responsibility in a spiritual sense, and to have woman over them in an authoritative position will wreak havoc on His perfect design. On point number 4, I would like to add that what may have begun as a response from women to abusive and/or irresponsible men in the culture years ago, has become a lame excuse for women taking charge and treating men like incompetent buffoons. This cultural shift has damaged the church (IMHO), because the American church as embraced the culture, welcomed the worldly aspects, and allowed it (the culture) to preach from the front as loudly as the pastor himself. Not EVERY church, mind you; just many. Bottom line, which you did not mention, and it IS very controversial, Paul explains clearly why women should not be allowed to preach or be over men in the church: Eve was deceived.
There's my two cents. More later...

WOW! The Debster hasn't changed a bit since 1971. Are you sure that's the right year???

I really like your statement you made at the end, "some of the dumbest decisions I’ve made over the past 18 years were because I didn’t take my wife’s advice." I think that sums the whole issue up!

I'm not sure how I feel about women leading the church, wasn't sure how I felt about a possible woman as Vice President of the country, but one thing is for sure: we are often right and the most important parts of ministry - the ones who do, cry, care, listen, feel, reach out and follow through. Not to say men don't do that. But women have a special touch, don't you think? There's my 2 cents on the issue.
